No, the mini-browswer data transport is definitely primarily GPRS, not
CSD. In fact, AT&TWS does not support GSM CSD, only T-Mobile &
Cingular do. VoiceStream launched & mildly promoted WebStream CSD in
select markets (primarily the former Aerial markets if I recall
correctly) in spring 2001 but quickly moved on to its iStream GPRS
launch in fall 2001. Cingular I believe implemented CSD concurrently
w/ its GPRS deployment. And AT&TWS had no data capabilities, CDPD
excepted, until its GSM/GPRS build-out began summer 2001. W/ the
exception of a few months in the select WebStream markets, T-Mobile,
Cingular, & AT&TWS handset browsers have always primarily utilized
GPRS packet-data, including numerous handsets w/ OpenWave 4.1
generation browsers.

I have added as follow-ups several of the GSM newsgroups to this
thread, as it is veering decidely into that territory. Perhaps John
Navas or someone likewise knowledgeable will be able to provide a
definitive answer from the GSM camp.

For those in the GSM newsgroups entering the thread mid-stream, the
discussion is OpenWave browsers and the supposed lack of support for
1xRTT packet-data before OpenWave generation 5.0, but apparently that
WAP 2.0 requirement did/does not similarly apply to GPRS packet-data,
as GPRS launched w/ OpenWave 4.1 fully a year before Sprint PCS
Vision.
