I don't think T-Mobile will be kicked out of NYC. ;) Cingular is using
T-Mobile's network in NYC...so w/o T-Mobile there would be no Cingular
in NYC.

Cingular GAIT phones offer GSM, TDMA, and AMPS (analog).

Back when I was looking for a replacement for my trusty StarTac, I was
offered GSM-only phones quite a few times (actually, every time I
didn't open the conversation by saying I didn't wan tGSM) at various
Cingular stores WITHOUT ANY explanation of what GSM was, the limited
coverage or the lack of AMPS. I had done sufficient homework to
realize the limitations of a GSM only phone, but you would be
surprised how earnestly and sincerely the Cingular stores tried to
minimize them.

I ended up with a V60Ti and like it. I know I will have to replace it
in a couple years, but the deal I stumbled on was $20 after rebates so
it was a no brainer. And now that I finally found a good holster for
it, I'm a happy camper.

Yes, here in Eastern Georgia Cingular is only GSM and has been the 2
years I lived here. They offer GAIT phones.
