Saw the little trailer and miniture antenna mast for the first time, this
afternoon. It was set up across from the race track in Martinsville, VA. I
glanced at the signal meter and it was maxed!

Signals around Martinsville were pretty good, anyway. I suppose this was a
capacity booster and not a "fill-in" for a dead RF zone. A guy was on top of
a V-DOT 40-ft tower hooking up a microwave dish. Don't know if that was
related to the cell site or not. (I suppose they have to route the calls
over some kind of path.)

If I remember right about the track's location (I'm not a NASCAR fan
;), it's not far from U.S. 220, maybe less than a mile off the
highway. Alltel tuned up its CDMA digital service there maybe a year
and a half ago, and the signal is usually pretty strong along 220, so
it probably was a capacity thing for the races :) I mean, after all,
don't they get roughly 100,000 folks for a big race? And I think
their second NASCAR race of the year is either this weekend or next
weekend.
