CenturyTel in Michigan was purchased by Alltel and it has been
in the process of being converted to CDMA over the past year.
Centennial Communications would be a good purchase for Alltel,
but the Michigan portion of Centennial overlaps the Alltel area
that was purchased from CenturyTel.

There is no mention of Centennial on Alltel's website.

I know that there is no mention, and no one knows what is going on with
that whole deal.

Maybe Alltel is buying them out, but just behind closed doors.

Centannial and Alltel are not going to merge. Centennial is in the process
of switching to GSM not CDMA or TDMA. I sell both, and personally I hate
Centennial. But who cares what a salesman thinks

No one except the investers who tend to get detailed reports.
It isn't Centennial.

If it's behind closed doors, how do your mom & pop know?

Alltel has ZERO coverage in Indiana, except Michigan and Ohio
towers near state lines. Any Indiana coverage shown is really
USCC or Verizon where Alltel roams. Alltel doesn't even ROAM
on Centennial. Centennial would be an interesting purchase,
but what of the Ohio and Michigan portions of the greater
coverage area? Alltel cannot (FCC regulations) own Centennial
in Michigan or Ohio - unless they turn around and sell the
area (or their already being upgraded coverage) to someone
else. Not a bad idea, but if it were happening it WOULD be
public. The stockholders and the FCC need to know!!!

A long shot, but Centennial MAY be paying Alltel to handle
the billing. I believe Alltel offers this service to other
carriers. But that doesn't mean that Alltel owns or will
ever own Centennial.
